Arncliffe, Sydney

Arncliffe is in the St George area of Sydney, between Banksia, Wolli Creek, Turrella and the Bardwell Valley area. It is serviced by the Illawarra Line and the East Hills Line at Arncliffe and Wolli Creek Stations, and is bisected by the Princes Highway. A substantial amount of Arncliffe is taken up by the Kogarah Golf Course and Barton Park Driving Range.

Arncliffe has two primary schools, Arncliffe Public School and Athelstane Public School. Until 1974, Arncliffe Girls Intermediate High School was located next to Arncliffe Public School, prior to amalgamation to form Tempe High School. The Cairnsfoot Special School is also located in Arncliffe.

Many houses and buildings in Arncliffe are of a Victorian or Federation character, and are quite beautiful. The novelist Christina Stead was raised in Lydham Hall, Arncliffe, before moving to the US to live. Her 1940 novel, The Man Who Loved Children, was based on her childhood in Arncliffe.
