Castlecrag is located on Sydney’s lower north shore, between Middle Cove, North Willoughby, Willoughby and Northbridge. Castlecrag is architecturally unique for this area, having been planned by renowned architect Walter Burley Griffin and his wife and architectural partner Marion Mahony Griffin after leaving Canberra in 1921. The Griffins specifically planned Castlecrag to take advantage of the area’s natural beauty, inspired by a rock crag in the area that was known locally as Edinburgh Castle. Many streets in Castlecrag are named after castle features, such as The Barbican and The Parapet. The Griffins themselves lived in Castlecrag after 1925.

The Haven Amphitheatre in Castlecrag was spearheaded by Marion Mahony Griffin and hosts many cultural events.
