La Perouse is one of the smallest suburbs in Sydney, or at least one of the least populous. In the 2011 census, it had only 418 residents. La Perouse is on Botany Bay, and faces Kurnell across the bay. La Perouse is a part of the local government area of Randwick.

It was named after the French Explorer Francois de Galup, Compte de La Perouse and his landing in the area. They landed in 1788 after the British and were welcomed into the colony. Though they were not allowed to land in the same area and sent to the location of the now name sake suburb of La Perouse.
