Mortdale is located next to Oatley in Sydney’s southern St George region. It is close to the Oatley Heights Park and Oatley Park, as well as Hurstville Golf Course, making Mortdale a very green and quiet suburb in which to live. Mortdale has several schools, including Mortdale Public School, Carinya Special School, Marist College Penshurst and Penshurst West Public School, both of which are actually in Mortdale.
Mortdale was originally named after wool merchant Thomas Sutcliffe Mort, who owned property in the area. Mort was a prominent figure in colonial Sydney, and Mort Bay in Balmain is also named after him. The Mortdale area was for a long time a small farming community. After World War One it became a popular home for returning soldiers, many of whom bought land in the area.
Several streets in Mortdale are deliberately named after streets in the CBD, such as Oxford, Pitt and George Streets. There is also a section of Mortdale where all but one of the street names begins with the letter B.
If you are looking for St George Electricians outside of Mortdale, don’t worry, we service all other St George areas as well.
