Sandringham, Sydney

Sandringham is a small beachside suburb at the southern tip of the St George region. It is bordered by Sans Souci and Ramsgate Beach, and faces Botany Bay and Kurnell from Lady Robinson Beach.

From the 1830s, the local occupation was timber-getting, and then stripping bark from the timber. Sandringham was renamed after the royal estate of Sandringham, Norfolk, by William Rust, who bought a grand house in the area in 1872: Rust was a royalist and it is generally believed he aimed to honour Edward VII, the then Prince of Wales.

Sandringham is a small close-knit suburb of only 976 people, with residents taking advantage of the many water-based activities they are lucky enough to enjoy. Sandringham has access both to the beach on Botany Bay and also the Georges River: the St Georges Sailing Club is at the edge of Sandringham in neighbouring Sans Souci and there are many parks in the area.
